Kensington is a prominent inner city district of Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. The district comprises residential and commercial areas and is situated east of the city center and bounded by Upper Parliament Street/Chapel Street, south of Smithdown Road, and east of Kensington Fields. Kensington’s history is closely linked to that of Liverpool. In the early 19th century, the area was part of the township of West Derby. The expansion of Liverpool led to the creation of the Liverpool Corporation and the merging of the township of West Derby with Liverpool in 1835.
